Darien tells No Roses Gallery’s owner and curator, Lisa Hall, “Lines in the Universe describes snippets of life that are lived but dismissed. The lines on paper are searching for the essential spirit of the many fleeting moments we have in our lives. They are like idiosyncratic shadows. They are here and they are not here. When we make a conscious effort to notice them, they can change our way of viewing life.”
Darien Donner was born in Rome in 1963 into an artistic family. Her father, Gaetano Pompa, was a prolific surrealistic painter and sculptor. Her mother is a photographer. She learned her skills as an artist from her father and mother: Drawing, painting and crafts were all part of the daily family dynamic.
After working for many years as a textile designer in Rome she moved to the United States in 1995, where she earned a master degree in education, became an elementary school teacher and has been teaching public school in South Los Angeles since 2003.
Painting and drawing continued to be big part of her creative life as her time is divided exclusively between teaching and creating art.
No Roses Gallery features original work from artists, jewelry designers and master crafters.
No Roses is at 13624 Ventura Boulevard in Sherman Oaks, CA and is open Tuesday -Saturday 10am-7pm and Sunday 12pm-5pm.
